Hydrangea after a summer rain storm.
I often dream of visiting every one of America’s national parks. We are blessed with incredible beauty in these magnificent parks, and I want to see it all.
But when you are under contract to teach two semesters plus summer sessions each year, there is little time for that much travel. I console myself by merely opening my eyes to the sheer beauty and wonder right before me, literally right in my own back yard. I shot these hydrangea today after a summer rain storm with my Canon 40D DSLR and a 28-300mm telephoto lens.
More often than not, it isn’t necessary to travel far from home to see the wonder of nature. All we have to do is open our eyes.

Your skill and expertise as a leading thinker and now teacher of strategic communication is widely known, Les. But your skill as a photographer is one of those hidden layers that makes knowing you such a joy. Thank you for sharing such beautiful photos here and on Facebook.
Thank you, my Brother/bff. I love digital photography. In my pre-consulting days in corporate communication, I always did a lot of photo work. But that was all with 35mm film, mostly black and white.
I most love the immediacy of digital photography. For example, I took a break from grading papers yesterday and sat out back watching it rain. When the rain stopped, I got my camera and shot this and a few other photos of rain drops on leaves, etc.
Then, I went in and downloaded the shots to my computer, and within minutes, I had the photos ready for use in Facebook and this blog. In the days of 35mm film, I would have had to wait many days to see the results.
In the future, I’d love to do more photo work, for whatever purposes. Perhaps I will include more photos here if they enhance the copy. Yep, seems I am still an editor at heart.
What a gorgeous picture! I love hydrangeas. Thanks for the treat, Les! I miss you!
I never knew you were into digital photography! I dabble in it a bit myself. Very nice shot!
Tiffany and Stephen, great to hear from you both. Thank you for your kind words.
